This is a reminder to Club Members that the closing date for submission of entry forms for the clubs Winter Exhibition is Wednesday 5th November. Full details of entry requirements and exhibition arrangements are shown in the website notice dated 9th October.
The annual art extravaganza known as the Fife Shell Awards is now in its 31st year and is being staged this year at The Lochgelly Centre from 10th October until 26th November. The event showcases the work of Fife artists from all parts of the county and is promoted by Fife Council and Fife Cultural Trust and sponsored by Shell U.K. Ltd. Announced at the preview last Friday, a winner of one of the six coveted awards was our own Club President, George Aitken with his Pen and Ink entry titled A Corner of Falkland, Fife. Each winner receives a cash prize from the sponsors and the works are also purchased by Shell to go on show at NHS establishments throughout Fife Region. Many congratulations to George on his success. We are also very pleased to announce that Robbie Peterson’s pencil and Ink work, titled High Street, Edinburgh was selected in the Commended Category. The club Gallery in Unit 22 of the Kingsgate Shopping Centre completed its six weekly changeover of exhibits this week and reopened to the public today (October 16th). Items on display include a number of paintings inspired by Syd Reeves’ 2014 Remembrance Painting Challenge. As part of this initiative, the club has agreed to donate the hanging fees paid by members plus any commission earned on sales of the commemorative paintings to Poppy Scotland. Additionally, the artists themselves are encouraged to donate, at their discretion, either a proportion of or all the proceeds from sales to Poppy Scotland. We hope you will find time to visit the Gallery during our regular opening hours (12 noon until 4 every Thu, Fri, Sat and Sun) and enjoy what is on offer.

Hand-in paintings: Monday 10th November from 2 pm to 4 pm (no paintings will be accepted before 2 pm)
Dismantle Exhibition: Wednesday 19th November 3 pm to 5 pm
Exhibition opens: Tuesday 11th November at 9 am
Exhibition closes: Wednesday 19th November at 3 pm
Unsold paintings MUST be collected by members between 3pm and 5 pm on 19th November
Up to 5 framed paintings will be accepted. Unframed stretched canvas paintings are acceptable if neatly finished at the edges.
Up to 5 unframed paintings/prints per person will be accepted for the browser, if exhibiting original paintings.
ENTRY FORMS will be accepted only until Wednesday 5th November at the Club. Separate forms are required for framed paintings and items for the browser. Forms and details of craft items must also be handed in by 5th November. Browser items and craft are only acceptable from members submitting original paintings and are free to enter. HANGING FEE FOR PAINTINGS is £1 per item.
ALL MEMBERS ENTERING WORK IN THE EXHIBITION MUST DO A MINIMUM OF 2 DUTIES AND THESE MUST BE DETAILED ON THE ENTRY FORMS WHEN PRESENTING THEM FOR PAYMENT OF HANGING FEES.
FRAMING STANDARDS are the same as for all exhibitions:
Adequate and secure rings no more than one third down from the top of the frame and tightly wired or corded.
Screws and rings must be covered by a small amount of padding (foam or bubble wrap) secured with masking tape to prevent damage to other works.
The backs of work must be sealed with brown gummed tape or framing tape (as sold by the SAA and available in the sales drawer). MASKING TAPE OR PARCEL TAPE IS NOT ACCEPTABLE.
A brown luggage label written in capitals in black ink must be attached to the hanging cord. It should have details of the painting identical to the entry form, with string long enough to hang over the top of the frame. This is to assist the Hanging Committee when hanging members’ work.
A sample of the standard required for framing paintings is available at the Club (example pictured) and no paintings will be accepted if they do not meet this standard.
Members should be aware of copyright law and any works copied from other artists’ paintings or photographs, including those taken from books, should acknowledge the original artist or photographer on the entry form.
Exhibits will not be insured and are hung at the owner’s risk. Members may wish to insure their own work.
THE HANGING COMMITTEE WILL REFUSE ANY PIECES OF WORK NOT MEETING THESE REQUIREMENTS.
COMMISSION: 20% ON PAINTINGS AND 10% ON BROWSER ITEMS AND CRAFTS.

The Club Christmas Dinner will be held this year in the Garvock House Hotel, Dunfermline on Tuesday 9th December. Club members (together with spouse / partner), are welcome to attend at a cost of £29 per person. Will all members wishing to attend, please give confirmation to Nancy Dewar on 01383 738038 by Wednesday 15th October. Also, in order to secure the booking, a deposit of £10 per person should be paid to Nancy by 15th October. You can view the Menu by clicking on the Garvock House Hotel link above.
Although the submission of paintings for this event was timed to coincide with the start of the Winter Exhibition on 10th November, the Gallery at Unit 22 will also accept members entries for display during the Gallery’s regular hanging period (from 16th October). Paintings may be transferred to the Winter Exhibition later at members request. In summary, paintings may be exhibited at either a. The Winter Exhibition, b. In the Gallery at Unit 22, or c. At both venues. The club will donate the hanging fees paid by members plus any commission earned on sales to Poppy Scotland. Additionally, members are encouraged to donate, at their discretion, either a proportion of or all the proceeds from sales to Poppy Scotland.
