We recently brought you the result of the voting to select thirteen paintings for the clubs 2019 Calendar. Alan Booth’s Queensferry Sunset painting was featured here in a previous post, so here now are paintings 2 and 3 from the ones chosen. They are, Kinghorn Sands by Ian Roberts and Dunfermline Abbey by Annette Burgess. The other ten will be appearing here in further News Posts soon.
Members voted last week to select the paintings from the assembled entries to feature in the clubs 2019 Calendar. As far as was practicable the identity of each artist was concealed. The theme for the Calendar was “Fife” and as a result of the vote the following entries were chosen (in no particular order).
Annette Burgess Dunfermline Abbey
Alan Booth Queensferry Sunset
Doreen Dewar Mercat Cross, Culross
George Aitken Pitfirrane Club House
Helen Rowbotham Spring Cleaned Yacht (Charlestown)
Irma Brown Inchcolm Abbey
Jen Manson Dysart
Joan Paterson Impressions of the Maygate, Dunfermline
Robert Clement Dunfermline Abbey in Autumn
Roy McGowan West Shore, Pittenweem
Ian Blance Limekilns Harbour
Ian Roberts Kinghorn Sands
Anne Hill Drying Nets at Pittenweem
The entry with the most votes was Queensferry Sunset by Alan Booth and this painting will therefore become the Calendar Cover Page. Images of the other 12 entries will feature in later “News” Posts.
An exhibition of members paintings on the theme “Dunfermline and West Fife” opened at the Dunfermline Carnegie Library Community Gallery on Saturday, 7th July. Gillian Parsons from Fife Cultural Trust formally opened the Exhibition which will run continuously through October 2018. Here are some photographs from the event.
The Jess Burns Memorial Prize is awarded each year to the Dunfermline Art Club artist whose work had been voted favourite painting by the general public during the clubs Annual Exhibition. The award comes with vouchers for the purchase of art materials. We are pleased to announce that the winner for 2018 is Hazel Evans for her popular coloured pencil work “Waiting for Mum”. Congratulations Hazel ! The runners up this year were George Aitken and Chris Amos.
Many thanks to all the club members who contributed with setting up, dismantling, and providing the excellent artwork for our 135th Annual Exhibition. Thanks also to the management at the Kingsgate Shopping Centre and of course the general public from Dunfermline and surrounding area for their continued support.
