A group of club members attended a Pastel Workshop at the Duchally Hotel in Auchterarder last Saturday hosted by prominent artist and author Margaret Evans. The club frequently attends such events which are co-ordinated via Jim McLure’s Monday Pastel Group. Pic above shows a couple of quick demo sketches done by Margaret on the day.
The BBC Big Painting Challenge series currently on BBC One TV has generated a fair amount of debate in the club. If you haven’t done so already, you can find details of the programmes Little Painting Challenge on their website. Here is a link to the Little Painting Challenge page and if you want to take part there are some of the pre-printed entry postcards available in the club.
1000 of the best entries, including the winners, will be exhibited in the newly refurbished Whitworth Art Gallery in Manchester from the 4th of May 2015.
Before entering the competition please read the full terms and conditions.

Since letting you know about the decision to expand the scope of the website Portfolio last month, there have been a number of new exhibits published and some new Portfolio Pages too. Well worth another look if you haven’t done so for a while.
An audience of around thirty members attended last nights still life charcoal demonstration by Nichola Martin. Believed to be the first demonstration in this medium at the club, it was enthusiastically received. Outstanding examples, of Nichola’s work were also on display and were greatly admired. An informative question and answer session took place throughout a most enjoyable evening. Any members who may wish to explore this medium further by way of a workshop with Nichola, should make their interest known to Club President, George Aitken who will look at the possibility of hosting such an event at a later date.
Further to the News post on 10th January, additional sales of “Remembrance” theme paintings have increased the total sum donated to Poppy Scotland from £474 to £534. This additional sum has been forwarded to and acknowledged by Poppy Scotland. Again, very well done to all concerned.
Dunfermline Art Club has been approached by the management of Pittencrieff Park through our Vice President, Elaine Campbell, to see if we can give assistance in making the Peacock Sanctuary in the Glen a more attractive area for visitors. What they would like is for murals to be painted on to the metal shutters which cover the windows and doors of the Sanctuary.
If any members have experience of painting murals and would like to be involved in this project – either as a painter or in an advisory capacity, please register your interest via the Contact Us Page or speak to a member of the committee. Materials needed to undertake this project will be provided. At this early stage, dates(s) and other arrangements have not yet been determined.
We are pleased to announce that the vacant positions within the Club Gallery in the Kingsgate Centre have been filled as follows:

Additionally, Jen has been elected to serve on the Club Committee.
This is a reminder to members that Nichola Martin’s, still Life Charcoal Demonstration will take place this coming Tuesday (10th February) at 6.30pm. Please see original news item dated 9th January for full details and a link to Nichola’s own website.
