During it’s 134th year, Dunfermline Art Club Annual Exhibition gets underway at the Kingsgate Shopping Centre in Dunfermline on Monday (26th June). This years exhibition will feature almost 200 paintings together with sculpture and a selection of craft items (almost all for sale) and will remain open through Wednesday 5th July. We hope you’ll enjoy the artwork on offer.
Up to 5 framed paintings not previously exhibited at an annual exhibition will be accepted. Unframed stretched canvas paintings are acceptable if neatly finished at the edges. Up to 5 unframed paintings/prints per member will be accepted for the browser, (if also exhibiting original paintings).
Will be accepted only until 3.00p.m. on Wednesday 21st June at the Club. Point of contact is George Aitken. Separate forms are required for framed paintings and items for the browser. Forms and details of craft items must also be handed in by 21st June. Browser items and craft are only acceptable from members submitting original paintings and are free to enter. “Not for Sale” paintings can be accepted but must be matched with “For sale” paintings on a one for one basis. The hanging fee for paintings is £1 per item.
All members entering work in the exhibition must do a minimum of two duties and these must be detailed on the entry forms when presenting them with payment of hanging fees.
Framing standards within the club apply to all work submitted for exhibition at any venue.
1. Adequate and secure rings are to be placed no more than one third down from the top of the frame and tightly wired or corded. 2. To prevent damage to other works, screws and rings must be covered by a small amount of padding (foam or bubble wrap) and secured with masking or other tape to hold the padding in place. 3. The backs of paintings must be sealed with brown gummed tape or framing tape (as sold by the SAA and available from the club sales drawer). Masking tape or or parcel tape is unacceptable. 4. A brown luggage label, written in capitals in black ink is to be attached to the hanging cord with string. It should show details of the painting and be identical to the information on the entry form. (Name, Painting Title, Medium and Price) The string should be long enough to hang over the top of the frame. This is to assist the Hanging Committee when hanging members’ work. 5. A sample of the standard required for framing paintings is available at the Club. Although the example has an adhesive label attached in addition to the luggage label, this adhesive label is not a specific requirement and need not be applied. Work that does not comply with these framing standards will not be accepted for hanging.
SPECIAL HANDING IN ARRANGEMENTS Members who are unable to hand in work on 26th June may make a specific arrangement with the Unit 22 Gallery Management to deposit their work in the Club Gallery in Unit 22 during normal opening hours of the preceding week. Also, members unable to collect paintings for unavoidable reasons at the exhibition close, may make arrangements with the Unit 22 Gallery Management to have then returned to Unit 22 for uplift at a more convenient time. It is essential that Gallery staff are aware and agree well in advance if you intend taking advantage of these special arrangements.
COPYRIGHT & INSURANCE Members should be aware of copyright law and any works copied from other artists’ paintings or photographs, including those taken from books, should acknowledge the original artist or photographer on the entry form.
Exhibits will not be insured and are hung at the owner’s risk. Members may wish to insure their own work.
20% taken on paintings and 10% on browser items and crafts.

1 Precise timings for delivery and uplift of paintings have still to be determined.
2 Labels (as shown, and available in the club) to be attached with tape to the bottom of painting. Remember, when setting your price, that 25% will be deducted from any sales. If two paintings are being submitted, your order of preference should be stated.
3 The hanging arrangements at Fire Station Creative require that the D Ring hoops used to attach the hanging cord are accessible and not obscured. i. e. Tape or protective covering is not required.
The club News Post of 4th February provided details of the forthcoming exhibition at the Fire Station Creative (5th-14th May). The deadline for members to express an interest in exhibiting has now expired. As the potential number of paintings exceeds the space available to hang them, the following acceptance arrangements have been agreed.
Every member who expressed an interest in taking part may exhibit one painting, and in addition, those who wanted to exhibit more than one may submit one additional painting for the exhibition. i.e. 2 paintings maximum. Full details available on the “Exhibitions Noticeboard” at the club.
Club members are invited to participate in this exhibition being held in Saline Community Centre on Saturday 29th and Sunday 30th April (10am – 4.30pm). Works do not have to be new, but those that were exhibited at Saline last year can not be accepted.
Four entries per member will be allowed, the fourth picture on the entry form will be treated as a reserve, should space be limited, although in the past all pictures submitted have been displayed.
Either a normal club or Saline entry form is acceptable. Please identify your picture on the back and also fill in one label per picture detailing artist, medium, price and title of picture. This label will be for display purposes. (Labels & Entry Forms available at the club)
Pictures for the exhibition will be collected from the club premises on Tuesday 25th April and Wednesday 26th April.
At the end of the exhibition, on Sunday 30th April, it would be appreciated if members could collect or arrange collection of their pictures at 4.30pm. Pictures that are not collected from Saline on the Sunday will be returned to the club on Tuesday 2nd May.
There are no hanging fees or commission on sales. Further information is available from the club noticeboard or Austen Clark either at the club or on 01383 852562.
The Club has been invited to participate in an exhibition hosted by Dunfermline Fire Station Creative which will be open to the public from Friday 5th May until Sunday 14th May 2017. All members are invited to submit work for this exhibition and should make known their intentions by adding their name to the form posted on the Club Noticeboard at Townhill (no later than 5th April please) indicating the number of paintings they would ideally like to submit. The number of paintings which can actually be accepted for the exhibition will depend on the response to this initial request.
Members will be responsible for delivering their paintings to (Sunday evening 30th Apr and Monday morning 1st May) and collecting from the venue ( Sunday 14th May). Fire Station Creative staff will hang the exhibition during the week following delivery of work.
There will be a 25% commission taken on sales but there will be no hanging fees. Further details relating to the event will be published in due course.
Three members from the club will be holding an exhibition of recent paintings at the Dundas Street Gallery, Dundas Street, Edinburgh from Saturday 18th through Saturday 25th February. The Club Committee wish to convey their best wishes to all three for a successful event. Ken, Colin and Roy would also be delighted if you can manage to visit at some point during the week.
