An article in the Dunfermline Press from Saturday 23 March 1883 reported “A meeting of gentlemen called together by circular for the purpose of forming a Fine Art Association for the town and district was held in the committee rooms of St. Margaret’s Hall, Dunfermline on 22nd March 1883. As a result of this meeting The Dunfermline Fine Art Society (now known as Dunfermline Art Club) was formed.
A group of members have been given the go ahead to implement a proposal to produce a 2018 Dunfermline Art Club Calendar. It is intended that this will be produced in-house and printed commercially. The outlay on printing expenses will be reimbursed to the Club from the proceeds of Calendar sales. The theme for the calendar is “Fife”. So, if you would like to create a painting in any medium on this theme for possible inclusion in the calendar, please submit your work (by 14th June) to Irma Brown or Anne Hill at the club. The painting should be A4 in size (or equivalent proportions ), unframed, and in landscape format. A selection process (members votes) will decide which pictures will feature in the calendar. The Kingsgate shopping centre are to hold an event in May to celebrate the mining heritage of the area. It will be a comprehensive event with story telling, stalls, miners rescue service, an interactive area and choirs all being part of the event.
We have been asked to take part by having an exhibition of some 30 to 40 paintings of scenes depicting mining and associated activities. We will be allocated space in the “egg” on the same side as the Shopmobility unit.
The event runs from the 15th May 2017 when we would be required to set up.
Following on from this event, Dunfermline Delivers are to create a heritage walkway in the town centre and a selection of our pictures will be enlarged, weatherproofed and put on permanent display with acknowledgement to the club and the artists. A good quality digital image is required for this purpose.
So get painting and you could be one of those artists.

Congratulations to Club Member and watercolour tutor Colin Joyce who has just had an article featured in the latest (March) edition of Leisure Painter magazine titled “Paint 60-minute studies with Colin Joyce”. I understand a further article will follow in the April edition. Here is a small excerpt – “Don’t go outdoors to paint thinking that you want to produce finished work,’ says Colin, ‘consider it a study that you can work up into a larger piece back home. In that way, you take the pressure off yourself and you can enjoy the time spent outdoors. Of course, sometimes you come away with a real beauty, which is ready to go straight into a frame.”……….

The Christmas lunch at the club premises in Townhill will be on Wednesday 21st December starting at 1230 pm. As usual, we would look to members to make a contribution of food items and refreshments, and there is a list on the noticeboard for members to note the contribution they will make. Also, there is a box available where you may deposit raffle items which will be drawn on the day. Beside the raffle present tub is a list of suggested prizes. All contributions will be very much appreciated.

Congratulations to Alan Booth who was elected Dunfermline Art Club President at the clubs Annual General Meeting on Tuesday 16th August. Alan succeeds George Aitken who has stood down as President after five years in the position. Sincere thanks to George for his sterling contribution to the club during this period. Please see the “Committee” tab on the website for other changes which become effective from September 1st.
The Jess Burns Memorial Prize is awarded each year to the Dunfermline Art Club artist whose work had been voted favourite painting by the general public during the clubs Annual Exhibition. The award comes with a £50 voucher for art materials. We are pleased to announce that the winner for 2016 is Jack Pender for his oil painting “Seascape” Congratulations to Jack on his success.
Rob Henry’s painting “Horns of Alligin” and “Mum and Junior” by Margaret Elliot were joint Runners up. The total number of votes cast was 76 and a comprehensive list of these has been posted in the club.
